Class Rules
* Classroom rules are posted in the Classroom. Let’s quickly review what each rule means.
1. RESPECT MR. RHEES AND YOUR CLASSMATES (You respect me when you do what I say, don’t talk back, do not touch my property without permission, and follow all classroom rules and procedures. You respect your classmates when you follow classroom rules and procedures)
2. PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND BEFORE SPEAKING. LISTEN TO YOUR CLASSMATES AND PARTICIPATE IN CLASS DISCUSSIONS (Do not talk out of turn. Please listen to what your classmates have to say, you do not have to agree with them but please be respectful)
3. PLEASE LISTEN AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS THE FIRST TIME (This means do whatever I say without complaining or arguing)
4. PLEASE BE IN CLASSROOM WHEN THE BELL RINGS AND START ON BELL WORK (I want you to come to class! Be on time and start working.
5. STAY ON TASK DURING ALL WORK TIMES (Do what you are supposed to at all times)
Grading Information: 10 week term = 22 Classes
1. Bell Work – Be on time to get points! 22 x 5 = 110pts
2. News Article – Everyday read news article 22 x 10 = 220pts
3. Student News – Everyday watch news 22 x 10 = 220pts
4. News Quiz – Every Thur./Fri. on articles/news 10 x 10 = 100pts
5. Unit Quiz or Test (1-4 quiz/test per term) 100pts
5. Class Assignments/Homework – 2 a week 20 x 10= 200pts
6. Group Project - Details later 130pts
7. Performance Points – 10 pts a day 22 x 10= 110pts
10pts + pts each day for participating in class discussion (max 3pts)
a. – pts 1) Absent lose all points 2) Tardy 3) Talking (Wrong Time) 4) Off-Task 5) No Hall Pass 6) Disruptive Behavior
How to Make Up Performance Points
* Absent has to be excused.
· Watch News for 30 min and write ½ pg on major stories and what you learned.
· Do Current Event Assignment – Get printout from me in class. Read TWO news articles and fill out questions.
How to Make Up Student News
· Go to class website rheescurrentissues.weebly.com and click on website attachment. Search for date that you missed. Watch student news and write ½ page response on the major stories and what you learned
· Go to website cnnstudentnews.com and follow same instruction as above.
How to Make Up News Clips
· Go to class website rheescurrentissues.weebly.com and click on news clip you are missing watch entire clip and write a ½ pg Summary and Response.
If You Are Late
* You are late if you are not inside the classroom when the bell rings.
· If you are late you must:
o Walk in quietly making as little noise as possible.
o Sign-in at the Tardy Sheet. If you have a pass leave it in the folder.
o Join the activity in progress. If you don’t know what the class is doing raise your hand until I see you.
o Continue working (waiting) quietly until I get to your desk.
· Consequences for Tardies
o Lose Bell Work points for the day (5pts)
o School tardy policy will be enforced.
Late Work Policy
· Any assignment that is turned in late will receive an immediate 50% penalty.
· No late assignment will be accepted after TWO weeks before the term is over. That date is MAY 20, 2011.
· No more than FOUR late assignments will be accepted during the term.
Consequences
A. Everything we do in life has consequences. If you choose to run a red light, you must accept the consequences that brings (traffic ticket, crashing your car, etc).
Consequences are the things that happen to you when you choose not to obey a rule. This is what will happen if you choose to violate one of the classroom rules:
1. 1st Time: WARNING ( I will usually look at you to let you know and mark you on my tally sheet LOSE PORTION OF PERFORMANCE POINTS.)
2. 2nd Time: DOCK PERFORMANCE POINTS FOR THE DAY (You will lose ALL 10 performance points for the day.)
3. 3rd TIme: DETENTION (20 minutes & written assignment) (any morning before school)
4. 4th Time: CALL PARENTS
5. 5th Time: REFERRAL TO OFFICE
6. Severe: TIME OUT AND STEPS 4+5
